Privacy Policy

What we collect when you use NAMI, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do about it.

Last updated 16 September 2026

We have tried to write this in plain language. Everything described here matches what the service actually stores — there is nothing in this policy that NAMI does not do, and nothing NAMI does that is missing from it.

1.Who is responsible for your data

Amateta Technology & Graphics CC, of Windhoek, Namibia, decides why and how your personal information is processed when you use NAMI. In data-protection language, we are the controller.

You can reach our privacy team through the Help Centre, or at the support address published there. Write "Privacy" in the subject line and your request will be routed to the right people.

2.What we collect

Account information. Your name, email address, country, preferred language and the password you choose. Passwords are stored only as a one-way hash — we never hold the password itself, and nobody at Amateta can read it.

Profile information. The profiles you create: their names, avatars, maturity settings, language preferences and any PIN you set, stored hashed.

Viewing information. What you watch, where you stopped, what you add to My List, what you mark as liked, and the searches you run. This is what makes Continue Watching and recommendations work.

Device information. A device identifier generated by the app, the device name, type and platform, the app version, and the time a device last connected. This is what lets you see and sign out your devices, and what the concurrent-stream limit is measured against.

Payment information. The plan you chose, the amount, the currency, the status of each payment and the reference returned by the payment provider. We do not store card numbers, CVVs or bank credentials — those go directly to the payment provider, and NAMI only receives the result.

Support information. The tickets you open, the messages in them and the notifications we have sent you.

Technical information. Your IP address, approximate country derived from it, browser or app user agent, and diagnostic records such as playback errors and stream sessions.

3.Why we use it

  • To provide the service: signing you in, deciding what you are entitled to stream, remembering your place in a title, and syncing all of that between your devices.
  • To take payment and to manage renewals, grace periods and cancellations.
  • To keep NAMI secure: detecting credential stuffing, enforcing login throttling and account lockout, and identifying accounts being shared outside a household.
  • To honour licensing obligations, which are granted to us territory by territory and require us to know which country a stream is served into.
  • To recommend titles and to decide what appears in your rows.
  • To answer your support requests and send service messages about your account.
  • To understand how NAMI is used in aggregate so that we can improve it.

Where the law requires a legal basis, ours is the performance of our contract with you (providing the service and taking payment), our legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, product improvement), compliance with legal obligations, and your consent where we ask for it — for example for marketing email or push notifications.

4.Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information, and we never have.

We share the minimum necessary with suppliers who work on our behalf under contract: payment providers, the cloud storage and content delivery network that serve video, our email delivery provider, push notification services and our hosting provider. They may process your information only on our instructions.

We may share information with content licensors in aggregate, anonymised form — viewership totals for their titles, never a record that identifies you.

We may disclose information where the law requires it, to establish or defend legal claims, or to protect the rights and safety of our members and staff.

If Amateta is ever sold or reorganised, your information may transfer as part of that business, and you will be told before it becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

5.Where your data is held

NAMI is operated from Namibia, and our databases and media storage may be hosted in Namibia, elsewhere in Africa, or in Europe, depending on the provider that serves your region fastest.

Where information moves between countries, we require the receiving provider to protect it to the standard described in this policy through contractual commitments.

6.How long we keep it

  • Account and profile information: for as long as your account exists.
  • Viewing history and My List: for as long as the profile exists, or until you remove an entry.
  • Payment records: for as long as tax and accounting law requires us to keep them, typically five years, even after an account closes.
  • Device records and stream sessions: kept while relevant to security and entitlement, then cleared automatically.
  • Support tickets: two years after the ticket is closed.
  • Analytics events: retained in identifiable form for a limited window, then aggregated.

When you close your account we begin deleting your personal information, keeping only what we are legally required to keep. Deletion completes within thirty days.

7.Your rights

Subject to the law of your market, you can ask us to:

  • Give you a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct anything that is wrong — most of it you can change yourself in Account and Profiles.
  • Delete your account and the personal information attached to it.
  • Stop sending you marketing, which you can also do from Account → Preferences or from any email we send.
  • Restrict or object to particular processing, or ask us to explain the basis for it.

We will respond within thirty days. We may ask you to confirm your identity first, because we are not willing to hand your viewing history to somebody who merely knows your email address.

8.Children

NAMI accounts are for adults. Children watch on a kids profile created and supervised by the account holder, and we collect no more about a kids profile than we do about any other — a name, an avatar, and what has been watched, so that the profile works.

If you believe a child has created an account without a parent's involvement, contact us and we will remove it.

9.Security

We protect your information with encryption in transit, hashed passwords and PINs, signed and expiring playback links so that video cannot be pulled from storage without an entitled session, rate limiting and account lockout on authentication, and role-based access controls that limit which staff can see what.

No system is perfectly secure. If a breach ever affects your personal information, we will tell you and the relevant authority as quickly as the law requires and as clearly as we can.

10.Cookies

NAMI uses a small number of cookies and similar browser storage to keep you signed in and to remember your profile and player settings. The Cookie Policy explains each one and what it is for.

11.Changes to this policy

We will post any change on this page and update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect.
